Here's 5 items that every one of your blog posts or articles should have. So...think of this like a checklist to follow for every blog post you write and publish.
First, as a broad statement, longer format content tends to rank better. But this isn't always the case. What's much more important than length is if you're answering and addressing exactly what the visitor is searching for.
So, in many instances, a 600 or 800 word article will very often outrank 2000 or 5000 word monster posts that provide more generalized, broad content. So the first checklist item here is to create relevant content that targets search keywords and phrases that your target audience is actually using.
Next, always remember to interlink your posts. This is sometimes called internal linking. And this is a great way to provide additional value to your visitors. It provides them with additional content and articles that you've created that can give them deeper info on topics and areas that they might be interested in.
So as a second checklist item, be sure to link to other relevant content of yours in your posts. And do this in a natural, casual way...not in a spammy or forceful way.
Next, if you can, and where appropriate, cite reliable and respected sources. This helps boost your credibility and authority on the topic you're writing about and also provides your reader with even more indpeth info.
And here, I'm talking about research papers, university studies, and other credible and respected sources...not your best friend's blog or someone's YouTube video.
Here's your fourth checklist item: If you can, and where appropriate, lay out any research data that you'd like to include in your posts in tables. Tables are perfect for listing out data that might be collected annually, or maybe if you're providing comparisions between competing products or services.
Structuring data into tables in your articles and posts helps with your rankings and also helps you land Google Snippets too...so include 'em if you can!
And finally, watch your image compression. Many people don't understand how image compression works on the web. Too much of it, and you get poor quality images. Not enough of it, and your page load times slow down to a crawl.
For best results, make sure you're using the right graphic file format for the kind of image you have, make sure your image is sized correctly, and make sure to use proper compression. For compression, I use Photoshop, but you can use online services or even a plugin like Smush or Short Pixel.
