All of us have at one time or another experienced praying for a person who was a difficult case. However, there are other people that are more than difficult, they are what I refer to as the extreme cases. Today I spoke about the Gadarene Demoniac. We do not know his real name, it was never made known to us. We only know from the word that he was like a ravenous, violent, wild beast of a man. He was naked, and lived in a graveyard, no doubt, completely filthy and vile. No doubt a grotesque, terrifying man.

He was always roaming around those graves and mountains, crying and cutting himself with stones. Which magnifies his awful torment. We read that men tried to control him with chains and fetters, but he broke them off of himself. This is a very clear understanding that the power of Satan was in him, controlled and occupied him.

We get such a horrid, devastating picture of the worst of the depravity of man in this account. We know this man had a home, friends and a family. But they too got to the sad point where they gave up on him. No doubt he was loved. Perhaps you know someone like this man. A person whom you love but is so far gone that you are exhausted and your heart is crushed. You feel that your thousands of prayers, and millions of tears have not made any difference.

This story is more than just a story. It was purposely recorded for you and me, and for all time to show that Jesus has conquered Satan and his cruel kingdom forever. To show you that what He did for this tormented, to-far-gone man, He will do for your loved one too. He hears you. You see a day came where Jesus went to that tormented, miserable, lost man. I believe our Father in heaven saw the millions of tears shed by those closest to him, and was moved by them. So He sent His Son to heal him, restore him, and give him a peaceful, beautiful life. And not only that, but Jesus brought healing to the hearts of his family and friends, and became a great evangelist.

I believe He sees your tears too, just like those who loved that man. And Jesus will go to that one person whom you feel is past help too. He told us to pray, and why would God tell us to pray and not answer? He made it clear that He would, and He will do it. Your loved one, is under the bondage and control of those same demonic spirits, and that same Lord will destroy their hold too. There is NOTHING too hard for Him. Have faith in God, in His Son. It is His will and pleasure "to destroy the works of the devil" on behalf of those who cry to Him. He means to do it. His name is Faithful. He will have the last word as the lover of their souls.

"We are foolish to expect to serve God without opposition: the more zealous we are, the more sure are we to be assailed... Glory be to God, we know the end of the war. The great dragon shall be cast out and for ever destroyed, while Jesus and they who are with him shall receive the crown. Let us sharpen our swords to-night, and pray the Holy Spirit to nerve our arms for the conflict. Never battle so important, never crown so glorious. Every man to his post, ye warriors of the cross, and may the Lord tread Satan under your feet shortly!" ~Charles Spurgeon
