What’s the Point

By Pastor Gary Wayne

Text: Matthew 21:28-31, Matthew 25:31-46 Ver.45, then 40.

Ver.40 Passion Translation - “And the King will answer them, ‘Don’t you know? When you cared for one of the least important of these my little ones, my true brothers and sisters, you demonstrated love for me.’ ”

How do I demonstrate my love of God?

What captured my attention is the picture I see of two different kinds of hearts towards God.
I see these people as “church people.”
Both go to church, pay their tithes & offerings.
Both of them may or may not have an official title for ministry.
One group live their lives serving God – especially in serving other people because they have an active heart towards God.
Because they loved God, they love what God loves.
They freely give themselves to that love.

The other group live a self serving life. Church is about as deep as they get.
Their service in ministry has to do with what they get out of it – a title, maybe prestige. One of convenience.
They evaluate their involvement in ministry to others based on how much it will cost them.
When an opportunity to help someone arises, they “think about it” first.

How do I demonstrate my love of God? 1Cor.13:1-8
Read again.
1Co.13:5 “…keeps no record of wrongs.” (NIV)
How much has serving people, who don’t deserve my service, cost me?
Some are at this point: At one time, I gave myself to ministering to God and others, and I got hurt, so I justify not giving myself to ministry like that again.

Whenever I give myself to ministry for people, if I do it for them, or myself, I will get hurt. But if I do it for God it’s my joy, even if it isn’t pleasant.

Mt 21:28-31

Mt 7:21 "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.

Lu 6:46 "But why do you call Me 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do the things which I say?

Jas 1:22-27 “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does. If anyone among you thinks he is religious, (believes they have a relationship with God – Passion Translation) and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one's religion is useless. Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.

What do I hope to accomplish when I’m done this morning?
That we will evaluate our heart towards God in understanding He has called me to full time ministry, and I willingly press into ministry.

Not waiting for God to single me out and give me a specific task, but if I am a child that understands the Father’s heart, I live my life like I know He wants me to – I give to someone because I know that’s what the Father would have done.
I give of myself to the least of people.

Questions I want us to ask ourselves: Am I actively involved in ministry?
Doing what? Is it based on my schedule “being available?”

What’s the point? Why study the Bible? Why grow in understanding? Why become spiritually strong? For what purpose? What’s the point?

The dead sea doesn’t have an outlet.

Mt 24:45 "Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his master made ruler over his household, to give them food in due season?
46 "Blessed is that servant whom his master, when he comes, will find so doing.
47 "Assuredly, I say to you that he will make him ruler over all his goods. Passion – Ver.45 “Who is the one qualified to oversee the master’s house?” He will be a reliable servant who is wise and faithful, one he can depend on.”
The one who has the heart of the Master. How they treat people under their care will be treated like the Master would have treated them if He was there.

Holy Spirit, What are you saying to me personally in this message?
