why you need a content marketing strategy
If you're considering using a content marketing strategy as a way to magnetically attract the audience, the group of people, the special interest group that you want to serve in your online business, then you're definitely on the right track.
I know a lot of online business owners and online gurus advocate using online advertising -- Facebook ads, Instagram ads, YouTube and Google ads -- and that's all fine and well. But there are some major downsides to online advertising. Expense is a big one. Being totally dependent on someone else's platform is another.
A third big downside is the mechanics behind it all -- stop paying, and your traffic stops instantly. But with a content marketing strategy, your traffic never stops. Content that I'd published 3 years ago, 5 years ago, even almost 10 years ago still brings eyeballs to my website and to my work...
...and not just any traffic -- this content continues to bring the EXACT types of people I want to serve into my online business. And guess what? This video is the same. I expect this video will be online for a long, long time...10 years? Twenty years? Longer? Who knows! Talk about leverage!
See, the great thing about using content to help people and tell them about the sorts of work you do is, you create that content -- a video, a blog post, an article, a podcast or whatever...you create it ONCE...and then it works hard for you essentially forever.
Here's a great example of what I mean: Think of one of your favourite songs. Go ahead! Got it? Okay great. Now let me ask you, how many times would you say you've heard this song? A hundred? A thousand? Maybe more, right?
Well...how many times did the artist or band have to record it and release it? Just once, right? We can do the exact same thing with our online business. We can produce valuable, helpful content for our audience, who then finds it online...gets to know us a bit better...
...and then follows us back to our website where we can deepen the relationship and tell them about our wonderful pain-solving products and services. THAT'S the name of the game!
