different types of web hosting explained

If you're doing some research on web hosting for your online business, then no doubt you've run into some confusing, technical-sounding stuff. It can be a lot to sort through...especially if you're new to all this.

In fact, there are a handful of different types of web hosting that you can choose from. And honestly, most of them are likely beyond your needs as an online business owner.

Your best bet, especially if you're just getting started and want to keep your costs low, is to go with what's called "shared hosting." What shared web hosting means is, your website is stored on a web server alongside other websites...and all the sites share the web server's resources.

While this can have an effect on your website's performance and speed, if you're just getting started and are keeping things small, this usually isn't a concern.

And as your online business grows, you can always upgrade your hosting. For instance, the next step up from shared hosting is VPS hosting. VPS stands for Virtual Private Server.

Here, while your website would still be sharing a physical web server with other websites, your site's set up in it's own virtual server, meaning you won't see an impact on your website's performance or speed.

The next step up is what's called Dedicated Hosting. Rather than sharing a web server with other websites (either physically or virtually), here your website will be the only site on the entire web server. While this is really great for your website's performance, dedicated hosting can be pretty expensive.

Another option might be to go with what's called Cloud Hosting. This option is similar to shared hosting, where multiple websites will be hosted together...but rather than the websites being stored on a single web server, here a group of web servers are connected together to share resources.

One other type of web hosting that you may have run into is what's called Managed WordPress Hosting. This is a service where the web host is not only specializing in performance-based WordPress hosting, but their trained technical staff can also keep an eye on your website and manage it day to day.

This allows you to focus on other areas of your business, and gives you peace of mind to know that your website's being looked after. If you'd like some recommendations, I'll leave some links for you int eh Show Notes below.
