Essentially, I went from Brinstar to Norfair to Ridley's Lair, picking up all accessible items along the way; hence, why I don't have the Varia Suit yet. There's no reason to backtrack from Norfair to Brinstar when the High Jump Boots are literally next door to the entrance to Ridley's Lair.
