Today a person asked me why God did all those miracles and wonders in the old testament, but wondered why He does not do the same thing for us now? I had notes for a lesson I was going to do for today. However, when I read his message it sparked something in my heart and laid all aside. I explained that while those in the old testament did experience all those mighty miracles and wonders displayed in great power, they never at any time brought any of those people closer to God to love Him with all their hearts.

In fact, the covenant He made along with the laws, commandments and sacrifices did not help. Neither did the warnings of all the prophets sent to them. The very people He chose to make a great nation of, and to make Himself a great name through never loved Him. Only a few that we read about. Their end was a return back into captivity at the end.

What we have now they did not have, and what they had we do not have. What we have is far and above, eternally and unspeakably greater and better. We were given God's one and only begotten Son Jesus Christ to pay for our sins now and forever. The old testament people did not have Him and all He has done for us.

We have assurance of everlasting life. They didn't. We have a hope that does not disappoint. They didn't. We have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. They didn't. We can go directly to God in prayer. They couldn't. We have an inheritance kept in heaven for us that will never fade away. They didn't. We know the Son of God in a intimate and personal way. They didn't. We are born again. They were not.

Yet in their going back into captivity, God told them through the Prophet Ezekiel, "Yet will I be to them a little sanctuary in the countries where they shall come.” Afterwards to be brought out and restored. You see, we have been given everything, and much more than signs and wonders. We have the One with us, Jesus Christ who is the great sign and wonder, the Savior of the world that we have put our eternal faith and trust in. We love Him so much!

He is to us, in this administration of time, "a little sanctuary," "in this present evil age." And He will bring us out of it and into His glory to be with Him forever. He is a little sanctuary to the lonely, the dying, the hungry, and to those that thirst. Is that you? Then He is your little sanctuary even now and always until He brings you home to heaven. You can depend on it.

"A little faith will bring your soul to heaven; a great faith will bring heaven to your soul." Charles Haddon Spurgeon
