The Holy One of God; Luke 4:31-37

Delivered during the Sunday morning worship service, 10/31/2021. After successfully thwarting the devil's attempts to corrupt Him, and then escaping the Nazarenes' attempt to murder Him, Jesus returns to Capernaum where He confronts a demon from hell. Obviously, according to Luke's Gospel, the forces of evil are aligning themselves against the ministry of the Messiah and the Kingdom He is establishing. We will carefully analyze the interchange between Jesus and this demon, paying particular attention to what the demon knows about Jesus. But most importantly, we will learn that the very thing the devil and his demons realize about Christ is the very thing evil tries to obscure from the eyes of humanity-- that God is holy and will not abide evil in His Presence. When all of this is considered, we will realize and celebrate that only through the substitutionary atonement of Christ on the Cross can we have relationship with the Holy One of God!
