The prestigious Best in the Desert Parker 425 is finally upon us, marking the start of a new desert season. Today, over 70 unlimited race cars qualified to see who would start first off the line and grab the Team Ford Fastest Qualifier Award. Starting first off the line for the Parker 425 is a very valuable spot since having a first lap with clean air will allow the leader to put time on the rest of the field. After the first lap the lead pack starts to catch the slower classes, where dust becomes and issue for all.

Racer Engineering owner Dale Dondel finished the three mile qualifying loop with a time of 3 minutes and 17 seconds, only one second faster then second place Sam Berri. Kyle Conlon, Tracy Graf, and Lloyd Sproule would round out the top 5. With Graf and Sproule in the top 5, it would give Racer Engineering three of the top five vehicles. Robby Gordon put on paddles tires to help through the sandy course but finished in the 15th spot.

With each lap the Parker desert gets rougher, the holes get bigger, the dust grows larger, and the fight within the drivers starts to slowly fade. It will take everything they have to bring their cars to the finish line and those that do can truly say that they are the best in the desert.
