Very good boys: Nepal Festival of Dogs celebrates and worships dogs as religious messengers
This is the totally 'paw-some' sight in Kathmandu, Nepal that happened on Wednesday (November 3) to mark Kukur Tihar or the second day of the Yamapanchak festival of dogs that celebrates dogs as religious messengers.
In Nepalese Hindu customs, dogs are believed to be messengers of Yamraj, or the god of death, and the ceremony is an attempt to appease the god.
"People worship the dog, garland it and offer delicious food today. Dogs, during this festival, are adorned with flowers, have tikka put on their foreheads, and are offered food as part of the ceremony," said the filmer of the annual festival.
Dogs were adorned with garlands, vermillion powder and offered sweets as part of the worshipping ritual.
The very good boys also showcased their special skills during the event and medals were given to the very best dogs.
