Franks Smith's 90th Birthday Hosted by David Sidoo

In 1982, the UBC Thunderbirds won the Vanier Cup national championship for the first time. The Thunderbirds were regarded by many as the best Canadian College Football team ever.

Head coach Franks Smith's 90th Birthday celebration was hosted by alumni and the 1982 team Free Safety David Sidoo and his wife Manjy, with some of the members of the 1982 team and other players who Smith coached.

Frank Smith is an inductee in the BC Sports Hall of fame. BC Football Hall of Fame and CFL Hall of fame.

This evening, in celebrating Coach Smith's 90th birthday, the 1982 Team has created an annual Frank Smith Football Scholarship for $5,000 given to a football player at UBC in Frank Smith's honour.
