providing value to the marketplace

In life, we can choose what kind of games we want to play. Some people play consumer games, where they buy brands and follow trends not necessarily because they like them, but because they want to signal to the other chimps in the tribe that they're further up the social hierarchy than the other primates.

That's perfectly fine. That's a legitimate game to play if you like. But there are other games to play, too.

For instance, for me at least, the best games to play are games that provide huge value to others. As harsh as it may sound, providing "coffee barista" or "cashier" or "following your bliss" *value* to other people doesn't attract much money...and that's for one simple reason:

These sorts of things don't solve big enough problems. And these sorts of "problem solving" is becoming antiquated, old fashioned, and outdated. Over time, low-skilled work gets commoditized via outsourcing and automation.

So what's the solution then? First, realize that the economy and the markets it's comprised of are cold, harsh places. The only way to attract money is to solve big, complex problems.

Probably the best example of this is someone like Elon Musk. He solves very difficult, very complex problems. Thankfully, folks like you and I don't need to solve problems THAT difficult!

Further, join the present day. Realize that the internet has created a meritocracy where creative, skilled, competent labour gets rewarded. The solution is to gain valuable skills.

Embrace the change. Solve big, challenging problems for other people. We've gotta push ourselves to become better people who can add more value to the world and genuinely care about the people we serve. That's the way forward.

And this has never been easier with this incredibly powerful global peer-to-peer network we're all carrying around in our pockets.
