Alternator Replacement Hack

Alternator Replacement Hack: Here’s a handy way to make room for a new alternator when the mounting collars are protruding out too far for the new one to fit. Most people are inclined to hit them with a hammer, which can technically work, but you risk breaking the very weak metal on the alternator mounting bracket. It can’t be overstated how easy it is to break the mount with a hammer. Which is why I came up with this alternate method to draw the collars back without risking damage. This was demonstrated on a 2008 Escalade but is applicable to almost every make and model of car and truck, with a few exceptions. Hope it helps!
