In this home DIY Renovation video, we are remodeling our downstairs bathroom in our 100+ year old house. When this house was built, it was long before houses in this area of the country were built with indoor plumbing. This bathroom was clearly added to the house long after the fact, somewhere in the early to mid 1900s. As such, it is small, and difficult to work with.

We bought this house late last fall (November 2020), and most of the house is in good condition, except for this room. So, we finally decided to get to work fixing this abomination of a bathroom. We took out the old appliances, including a cast iron free standing tub with an overhead shower head conversion and surround curtains. We also removed the old toilet and vanity. There was no mirror when we moved in, just a hole in the wall.

We have replaced the old terrible appliances with a new toilet with push button low flow water saving options, a new taller vanity with stainless spout combo. We added a mirror, and most importantly replaced the tub with a standing surround shower with a modern frameless gliding glass door. The most difficult part of this project being working around an existing large full size window in the shower. And of course we painted the whole room, re finished the door and trim, and installed new sub floor and Vinyl sheet flooring.

We did all of the work ourselves with the help of my father in law, brother in law, and children. The total cost of this project was approximately $2500.
