A Skunk Visits

This is what I consider a "resident" skunk, because he visits all the time for food, and I've been very close to him. A couple of nights ago, I was walking across the porch to go out, and before I had reached the motion activated security light, I saw a small dark shadow move right underneath me. The security light then came on, and I saw it was the resident skunk visitor on the porch, trying to get into a bag of turtle food. I was, literally, not figuratively, within a foot, as in 12 inches of him. He raised his tail but he did not spray or stamp his feet. I talked to him calmly and welcomed him, and he lowered his tail and I let him go about his way. Because he's passed very close to me before and knows my voice, he did not panic, although I would have stepped on him with the very next step. He just trusted that I wouldn't hurt him.
