Greece: Hundreds protest workers fatal accident at Athens port - 28.10.2021

Hunderte von Menschen versammelten sich am Donnerstag am Piräus-Containerterminal im Hafen von Athen, um gegen einen tödlichen Unfall zu protestieren, bei dem ein 45-jähriger Hafenarbeiter ums Leben kam.

Seit dem Tod des Mannes am vergangenen Montag befinden sich die Arbeiter in einem 24-stündigen Streik, um gegen die ihrer Meinung nach gefährlichen Arbeitsbedingungen bei Cosco zu protestieren.

"Der tödliche Unfall ist auf unzureichende Gesundheits- und Sicherheitsmaßnahmen zurückzuführen. Im Gegensatz zum Profit haben vollständige Sicherheitsmaßnahmen für sie keine Priorität", sagte Markos Bekris, Mitglied einer Gewerkschaft der Containerterminalarbeiter.

Anfang dieses Monats billigte das griechische Parlament eine geänderte Vereinbarung mit dem Schifffahrtskonzern Cosco, die es diesem ermöglichte, seinen Anteil am Hafen von Piräus von 51 Prozent auf 67 Prozent zu erhöhen.

Hundreds gathered at the Piraeus container terminal in the port of Athens on Thursday to protest a fatal accident which caused the death of a 45-year-old port worker.

The workers have been going on consecutive 24 hour strikes since the man died on this past Monday, protesting what they say are dangerous working conditions at Cosco.

"The fatal accident happened because of insufficient health and safety measures. Unlike profit, complete safety measures are not a priority for them," said Markos Bekris, a member of a container terminal workers union.

Earlier this month, the Greek parliament approved an amended deal with the shipping group Cosco, later allowing it to raise its stake in Piraeus port from 51 percent to 67 percent.

Cientos de personas se reunieron el jueves en la terminal de contenedores del Pireo, en el puerto de Atenas, para protestar por el accidente mortal que causó la muerte de un trabajador portuario de 45 años.

Los trabajadores han realizado huelgas consecutivas de 24 horas desde que el hombre murió el pasado lunes, en protesta por lo que dicen que son condiciones de trabajo peligrosas en Cosco.

"El accidente mortal se produjo por la insuficiencia de las medidas de seguridad e higiene. A diferencia de los beneficios, las medidas de seguridad completas no son una prioridad para ellos", dijo Markos Bekris, miembro de un sindicato de trabajadores de terminales de contenedores.

A principios de este mes, el Parlamento griego aprobó un acuerdo modificado con el grupo naviero Cosco, permitiéndole posteriormente aumentar su participación en el puerto del Pireo del 51% al 67%.
