The Prime Minister, a buoyant and newly re-elected Mrs. Margaret Thatcher, addresses the House of Commons wherein she cites her landslide victory in the 1983 general election as a mandate for the renewal of her policies from the previous parliamentary session.
Mrs. Thatcher also solidifies her resounding victory over the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. Michael Foot, by taking aim at his unpopular socialist policies and in the course of doing so, making Mr. Foot the second consecutive Labour Party leader to have their career at the front bench of British politics effectively ended by Mrs. Thatcher, respectively.
