#RalphBaric is often referred to as the godfather of gain-of-function experiments. His lab at the University of North Carolina has pioneered groundbreaking techniques in virus manipulation and reconstruction.

Those techniques were used on bat viruses at the #WuhanInstituteOfVirology, with whom Baric has cooperated since at least 2015.

More recently, Baric has downplayed his association with the #WuhanLab, going so far as to suggest the lab’s notably lax safety standards may have caused the pandemic.

Baric’s statements have set him on a collision course with the #ChineseCommunistParty (CCP), who denounced him in two recent statements.
