For a month now, the inhabitants of the island of La Palma have been unable to return to their usual life due to the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano. Recently, the separation of lava flows has intensified, and the incandescent rivers have even been able to turn into a kind of "lava tsunami".
Tsunamis are unusually long waves that result from strong impacts on the water column. The inhabitants of the island of La Palma witnessed a unique phenomenon - the "lava tsunami".
Recently, another earthquake struck near the Canary Islands. It was not strong, but the tremors affected the eruption of the volcano. The eruption became even more powerful, and the rivers of lava, which received a new portion of hot magma, acquired extraordinary speed.
In connection with the intensification of the eruption, the local authorities were forced to evacuate about 500 more people. In the last week alone, from 11 to 18 October, 1,500 residents of the island were evacuated. In total, more than 7,000 people have left their homes.
