One Man - Based4Life - Garage Demo - 10.24.2021

“One Man” is a song written about how we very often like to blame our own problems on someone or something else. The context for the song is the TDS(Trump derangement syndrome) experienced by many during his presidency. It became a national epidemic to blame “one man” for everything wrong in our lives and in the world. This has been going on forever, but during Trump's presidency it was particularly divisive. Regardless of the president, politician, or any other person, we each must take personal responsibility for our actions if there is any hope for a peaceful existence.

This song sounds very political, but it really isn’t. It has become our culture to constantly blame others, try to ruin careers, and focus on what everyone else is doing wrong. Trump’s presidency could not have made this any clearer. The crazy thing is, he had many faults and mistakes to legitimately criticize. But the overly politicized climate, the media, and our culture made him the boogy man on whom to blame all the problems in the world. This created a division in our country I have never seen in my lifetime, and most of it was based on completely unfounded lies, and because everyone was so blind with hate, they just believed it. That created a counterculture where others think Trump is a savior and will single handedly save us and our country. Both of these extremes are dangerous for ourselves and our republic.

The point of the song is to realize that we each have personal responsibility for ourselves and getting lost in a fog of hate only clouds your vision and keeps you distracted. Other people, politicians, businesses, etc. can do things to us that are wrong, or cause us pain or harm, but it is our responsibility to do something about it and not let it control your mind and your life. The first step is to realize that maybe you are in the fog right now, and to take a step back and reassess the root cause of your problems.
