Metro Exodus has a pacing problem (and it's brilliant)

Metro Exodus is an excellent game, one that is severely underrated and underappreciated for all its quality. It left me with a lot of thoughts from my time with it. One of the things I reflected on most was the pacing of the game. Pacing is fairly ubiquitous to gaming, and story telling of any sort, really. All games require pacing of one kind or another, and many games use pacing as a method to guide the player and emphasis key moments. But the pacing in Metro really is one of the games biggest strengths...while also being one of the games biggest weaknesses.
