Kary Mullis won a 1993 Nobel Prize in chemistry for his development of the RT-PCR research tool.

Mullis repeatedly stated the RT-PCR is NOT a diagnostic tool to determine viral or bacterial infections, and can be manipulated in such a way that any claim of a positive or negative result can be made.

Sadly, Mullis died in August 2019, just 2 - 3 months before Covid-19 appeared in China. How convenient...
