Cytokines Series: Interleukin 1 -The Inflammatory cytokine #shorts

This is the fourth of a series of short videos on Low dose Medicine and in particular Cytokines. This video introduces the cytokine Interleukin 1.
The interleukin 1 (IL 1) family is a group of 11 cytokines, which can trigger a complex network of pro-inflammatory and endothelial cells by regulating and initiating inflammatory responses.
The most commonly used and studied cytokines of the IL-1 family are IL-1 α and IL-1β because of their role in mediating inflammatory diseases.
More than any other cytokine family, the interleukin 1 family is closely linked to the innate immune responses.
The two forms of interleukin-1, alpha and beta are made mainly by one type of white blood cell, the macrophages, and help another type of white blood cell, the lymphocytes to fight off infections; in particular they induce the production of interleukin-2 by T helper cells.
