Zu den Einschränkungen, die aufgehoben werden, gehören die Ausgangssperre, das Verbot, das Haus aus irgendeinem Grund zu verlassen, und die Beschränkung auf einen bestimmten Radius. Reisen zwischen den Regionen sind nach wie vor eingeschränkt, bis eine höhere Impfquote erreicht ist, ebenso wie Masken, die nach wie vor vorgeschrieben sind.

Kneipen und Cafés dürfen ab den frühen Morgenstunden des Freitags 20 vollständig geimpfte Gäste im Haus und 50 im Freien haben.

Die Beschränkungen wurden gelockert, nachdem die Stadt ihr Ziel erreicht hatte, 70 % der erwachsenen Bevölkerung vollständig zu impfen.

Melbourne residents were seen gathering on the streets on Thursday as most of the city's COVID restrictions were lifted after 262 days of lockdown.

"It feels so good. We did the countdown to lockdown lift-off, it feels like we've been literally holding our breath for days, week, months. The game-changer of course is vaccination, so we know this time we are opening and staying open. It is time for celebration," a local said.

Some of the restrictions to be lifted include the curfew, not leaving your home for any reason, and being confined to a specific radius. Travel between regions is still restricted until a higher rate of vaccination is reached, as are masks which are still mandated.

Pubs and cafes can have 20 fully vaccinated guests indoors and 50 outdoors as of the early hours of Friday.

Restrictions started to be eased after the city achieved its target rate of fully vaccinating 70 percent of the adult population.
