France: Farmers bring cows to downtown Nantes in protest of biogas project - 19.10.2021

Rund 100 Menschen, Landwirte und Bürger, versammelten sich am Dienstag in der Innenstadt von Nantes, um gegen das Projekt einer Biogasanlage in der Stadt Corcoue sur Logne, 40 km südlich der Stadt, zu protestieren.

Die Demonstranten bauten in den Straßen von Nantes eine Bauernhofattrappe auf. Die Demonstration war komplett mit Mais, Heuballen und Rindern ausgestattet.

Die Landwirte sagen, dass die Anlage ihr Einkommen schmälern und sie zwingen wird, ihre Landwirtschaft umzustellen. Die neue Art der Bewirtschaftung wäre industrieller und die Tiere hätten weniger Zeit im Freien.

"Es drängt uns dazu, die Tiere nicht mehr ins Freie zu lassen, riesige Farmen zu besitzen, in denen die Tiere in Gebäuden eingesperrt sind, und wir wollen kein Teil davon sein, sondern wir wollen Landwirte bleiben, mit unseren Kühen im Freien und weiterhin so produzieren wie heute", sagte Guillaume, ein örtlicher Milchbauer.

Drei Landwirte sprachen mit den Behörden der örtlichen Präfektur. Sie beantragten ein Moratorium für das Projekt, bis ausreichende Untersuchungen durchgeführt worden sind, um die langfristigen Auswirkungen einer Biogasanlage auf das Gebiet zu verstehen.

Around 100 people, farmers and members of the public, gathered in downtown Nantes to denounce a biogas plant project in the town of Corcoue sur Logne, 40km south of the city, in Nantes on Tuesday.

Protesters made a mock farm on the streets of Nantes. The demonstration was complete with corn, bales of hay and cattle on display.

Farmers say the plant will reduce their income and force them to change the way they farm. The new way of framing would be more industrial with animals having less time outside.

"It urges us to not let the animals go outside, to own huge farms with animals locked in buildings so we don’t want to be part of this, and we want to remain farmers, with our cows outside and to keep producing like today," said Guillaume, a local dairy farmer.

Three farmers spoke with authorities in the local prefecture. They sought a moratorium on the project until sufficient research has been undertaken to understand the long term effects a Biogas plant would have on the area.

Los manifestantes hicieron un simulacro de granja en las calles de Nantes. La demostración se completó con maíz, pacas de heno y ganado en exhibición.

Los agricultores dicen que la planta reducirá sus ingresos y les obligará a cambiar su forma de cultivar. La nueva forma de encuadrar sería más industrial y los animales tendrían menos tiempo al aire libre.

"Nos insta a no dejar que los animales salgan al exterior, a tener granjas enormes con animales encerrados en edificios, así que no queremos formar parte de esto, y queremos seguir siendo granjeros, con nuestras vacas fuera y seguir produciendo como hasta ahora", dijo Guillaume, un ganadero local.

Tres agricultores hablaron con las autoridades de la prefectura local. Pidieron una moratoria del proyecto hasta que se hayan realizado suficientes investigaciones para conocer los efectos a largo plazo que tendría una planta de biogás en la zona.
