Was George Carlin a soothsayer? No, he simply had powers of observation

Like all comedic geniuses, Carlin had a keen ability for observing his world with great curiosity & skepticism. But what set him apart was brutal honesty.

Humor is capable of delivering admonishments that penetrate defense barriers. Carlin was more than an entertainer, he chipped away at the facade of societal propriety & decorum to provide a peak into a more truthful reality.

That type of truth can be uncomfortable because facades are often designed with deceptions built on comfort.

Carlin never shied away from speaking out against the hypocrisy & efforts of control he observed from organized religion & government. But toward the end of his life his comedic style shifted from observational lecturing to more of an urgent warning.

I believe Carlin’s celebrity status & proximity to certain prominent people, combined with his advanced observational skills created a unique perspective.

Most of us did not recognize when the boiling water engulfing us was heating up. The same societal trend lending itself to observational humor can also lend itself to dire warnings depending on the perspective. Access changes perspective. So does discovery!

What did George Carlin know in 1999? Keep in mind, this was 2 years before 9/11. Carlin was ahead of his time to specifically warn about the erosion of freedoms in exchange for gaining perception of security.

I think it’s safe to say that whatever specific knowledge, he was at least fully aware of the steadily increasing temperature of specific societal waters, the existence of a specific coordinated intention as the source of the heat, that the rising temperature was nearing a boiling point, and that the result would bubble over a threat to something he valued.

Don’t let opportunity for greater perspective go to waste. Use your powers of observation to approach life with an uncompromising commitment to brutal honesty!!
