The Republic of Venice (Italian: Repubblica di Venezia; Venetian: Repùblega de Venèsia) or Venetian Republic (Italian: Repubblica Veneta; Venetian: Repùblega Vèneta), traditionally known as La Serenissima (English: Most Serene Republic of Venice; Italian: Serenissima Repubblica di Venezia; Venetian: Serenìsima Repùblega de Venèsia), was a sovereign state and maritime republic (mainly northeastern Italy and along the Adriatic Sea coast of the Balkans) which existed from 697 until 1797.
Inno Nasionale Veneto was unnoficial anthem of The Republic of Venice. The music comes from Antonio Vivaldi's oratorio "Juditha Triumphans," written to celebrate the victory of the Republic of Venice over the Turks during the siege of Corfu in July 1716.
