What can be gained about studying ancient Islamic Law? Through the many controversies we face, taking the still-relevant lessons can be incredibly beneficial.

Listen in to learn:
1. How to examine ancient laws and texts
2. Why epistemology is valuable
3. The value of community language and social standards

Ahmad Atif Ahmad, Professor in The Department of Religious Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara, shares his research studying Islamic Law and applying the refined ways of thinking to problems faced today.

While ancient laws and regulations may not always make sense to us, that does not remove the value that can be gleaned when looked at in an abstract sense. Especially in the case of medieval Islamic law, while not always applicable, the ideas presented still hold great value.

Examining these laws even uses similar strategies that are used in modern laws as well. For example, even the United States Supreme Court uses various forms of language and distilled knowledge to make the decisions that govern our country.
