Madrid: Thousands of dog owners and their four-legged friends flood streets in pro-adoption pup race

Rund 5000 Hundebesitzer nahmen am Sonntag an der zehnten jährlichen El Perroton-Feier teil und liefen mit ihren pelzigen Freunden um die Wette, um das Bewusstsein für das Aussetzen von Haustieren zu schärfen und die Adoption zu fördern. Die Teilnehmer liefen etwa 4,5 Kilometer durch das Zentrum von Madrid und erreichten das Ziel im "Perroton Village" in der Calle Goya, Plaza de Colon. Jeder Läufer erhielt ein offizielles Perroton 2021-T-Shirt, das von den Gründern des andalusischen Modeunternehmens Victorio & Lucchino entworfen und signiert wurde. Around 5,000 dog owners competed in the tenth annual El Perroton celebration on Sunday, racing with their furry friends to raise awareness of pet abandonment and promote adoption. Participants ran approximately 4.5 kilometres through central Madrid, finishing in the 'Perroton Village' area in Calle Goya, Plaza de Colon. Each runner received an official Perroton 2021 t-shirt, signed and designed by the founders of Andalusian fashion firm Victorio & Lucchino. "We have filled Madrid with dogs, all with great respect and great love so that everyone can adopt responsibly," said Alejandra Botto, president of the charity organisation El Arca de Noe, which aims to protect abandoned pets. This year's race took place following the deferral of the race in 2020, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Organisers announced that 30 percent of registration fees (€4.50 / $5.20 of each registration) will go to the National Perroton Association.
