Jesus was not kidding when He said, "In this life you will have tribulation." It is just the way it is. It is the course of this life. Like Jacob said in his last address to Pharoah, "The days of the years of my pilgrimage are an hundred and thirty years: few and evil have the days of the years of my life been..." In fact, every one that we read about in the word had long lives that were considered "few and evil."

Consider Abraham. God at first called him, "The friend of God." Later on God says of him, "Abraham, My friend." And farther on Ezra says, "Art not thou our God, who didst drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham thy friend for ever?"

So we see that the first time God calls anyone friend was mentioned regarding Abraham. And it looks like it was not a stagnant friendship, but a growing one. God saw that he had faith in Him regarding the unknown and what seemed impossible. That it ultimate friendship! This carries through into the New Testament where Jesus says, "I no longer call you servants, I now call you friends."

The very idea that we can be God's friends is incredible. I received such a wonderful revelation of that the other morning. It was as if a great light burst through from within, and a wonderful peace and comfort rushed in. I knew also in a deeper sense that everything was taken care of, and felt a lightness in my soul. And all would be alright. Our great Friend comforts us when we least expect it. He will comfort you too.

"A rule I have had for years is: to treat the Lord Jesus Christ as a personal friend. His is not a creed, a mere doctrine, but it is He Himself we have." ~D.L. Moody
