Austria: Thousands of protesters call for Kurz to resign amid corruption accusations - 07.10.2021

Thousands of Austrians protested in front of the headquarters of the leading OVP party on Thursday evening. The protesters called for the resignation of Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, who is under accusation of corruption. "We are here today, in front of the headquarters of the OVP, also known as the party of chancellor Sebastian Kurz. We try to make clear that a chancellor whos in the innermost circles are in a big corruption case is not under any circumstances able to continue office. The state treasury is not a self-service shop and that is also the case for Kurz and his clique," explained Socialist Youth Austria Association chairperson Paul Stich. Prosecutors raided Kurz' offices on Wednesday morning, along with his closest advisers and the party headquarters in Vienna.

Tausende Österreicherinnen und Österreicher haben am Donnerstagabend vor dem Sitz der führenden Partei ÖVP protestiert. Die Demonstranten forderten den Rücktritt von Bundeskanzler Sebastian Kurz, der unter Korruptionsvorwürfen steht. "Wir sind heute hier, vor der Zentrale der ÖVP, auch bekannt als die Partei von Bundeskanzler Sebastian Kurz. Wir versuchen deutlich zu machen, dass ein Bundeskanzler, der im innersten Kreis in eine große Korruptionsaffäre verwickelt ist, auf keinen Fall im Amt bleiben kann. Die Staatskasse ist kein Selbstbedienungsladen und das gilt auch für Kurz und seine Clique", erklärte der Vorsitzende der Sozialistischen Jugend Österreich, Paul Stich. Staatsanwälte hatten am Mittwochmorgen die Büros von Kurz, seinen engsten Beratern und die Parteizentrale in Wien durchsucht.

Intentamos dejar claro que un canciller que en sus círculos más íntimos está inmerso en un gran caso de corrupción no puede en ningún caso continuar en el cargo. La hacienda pública no es una tienda de autoservicio y ese es también el caso de Kurz y su camarilla", explicó el presidente de la Asociación de Juventudes Socialistas de Austria, Paul Stich. Los fiscales registraron las oficinas de Kurz el miércoles por la mañana, junto con sus asesores más cercanos y la sede del partido en Viena.
