There are some serious concerns with a Bill that currently sits before The House of Representatives.

The Bill in question is the Biosecurity Amendment (Enhanced Risk Management) Bill 2021[1] which would amend the Biosecurity Act 2015[2] (the Biosecurity Act) to:

* further empower government to manage biosecurity risk;
* increase penalties for non-compliance;
* create a mechanism to make a human biosecurity group direction, and;
* remove protections against self-incrimination by forcing individuals to give information that may incriminate.

The Bill was first read in September this year, and names David Littleproud, MP for the Nationals in The House of Representatives, as the circulating authority.

Former Senator Rod Culleton has come out today and asked everyone to lobby Members from the original House the Bill was introduced, The House of Representatives, which would certainly include George Christensen MP (Nationals) and Craig Kelly MP (United Australia Party) and ask them to stand in the way of the Bill passing the House by opposing it.

Mr Culleton also stated that parts of this Bill would further threaten to erode our freedoms, rights and democracy and should not pass the Lower House as currently proposed.

Mr Culleton also said it was his duty to make the public aware of any unfavourable laws which would impose burdens on individuals and threaten human rights.
