How To Lift A Jeep Wrangler And What Not To Do

We lifted our Jeep Wrangler by four inches and dropped the transfer case to fix the driveshaft alignment. In combination with the 3 inch body lift, this was almost too high for our garage. In the end, we installed a 1-inch body lift that is sufficient for 33-inch tires. Below you'll find our timestamp index that you can use to search for specific topics within our video.

First, we lifted the front end of the Jeep Wrangler. Knowing this was the hardest part of the job due to the steering, we were eager to get it out of the way. Our toughest challenge was removing the pitman arm. After that, the rest of the lift was relatively straightforward. Drilling is necessary to mount the trackbar, but it pales in comparison to removing the pitman arm. Hopefully this won't be an issue for you, but we lubed, hammered, and ground until we got it off.

With the front done, we were tempted to just leave it as a squated Jeep. The rear suspension is easy, plus squatted Jeeps look ridiculous. The hardest part of the lift on the rear was the shock bolt bolt, which was our screwup. At the end of the video, in the blooper section, you'll find that.

Once the suspension had been lifted, we had to align the drive shaft. If the rear dive shaft is left at a steep angle, the drive shaft may end up on the road. As I learned, after dumping all the transmission oil out you won't just drive your car home in 4WD. If you don't get your angle right, you'll likely break a universal joint.

In some cases, you may not be able to shift in all gears after changing the angle of your transmission, either with a transfer case drop, or a body lift. In our Jeep, we had to fix this issue. The process will be fraught with cussing, whining, and crying, but not impossible. Be aware you are going to be grinding on the floor of your Jeep.

I hope this helped, or the bloopers at the end showed you some things not to do when lifting your Jeep. I'd love to hear about your experience in the comments.
