Did Religious Beliefs Result from Evolution? (CT Scan, Episode 18)

The story in secular classrooms and culture says that humans started believing in God because “religion” provided some evolutionary advantage. Using the 7 Checks of Critical Thinking, we can break this message down, define the terms, spot the propaganda, identify the assumptions and arrive at a logical, biblical response.

NOTE: The video pointed out that the US Supreme Court has recognized secular humanism as a religion since 1961 (Torcaso v. Watkins). It’s worth clarifying that the Court did not legally rule secular humanism is a religion; instead, one of the judges wrote a footnote which listed secular humanism among other non-theistic religions. Other courts since then have granted humanism constitutional freedoms and privileges as a religion (e.g., American Humanist Association v. United States of America and Center for Inquiry v. Marion Circuit Court Clerk), even though many secular humanists do not consider themselves to be part of a religious organization.
