Should I Reconnect with Someone from my Past?
Thoughts to Consider - Reconnecting
When was the last time you asked yourself if reconnecting to people you have not seen or spoken to could be something you need to do?
If you are like many, it has been weeks, months, or even years. I know when it comes to my personal life. I have not spent too much time reconnecting to people.
Although it is in my heart to do so, I question the value it will bring me and to the person I want to "reconnect" with.
Often we get busy in our daily routine that we forget to connect with those we would like to. Although the phone is in our hands, pocket, or by our side we don't always use it as it was intended.
Social media apps like Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, and Instagram allow us to connect with people on our social networks. But a large number of people never chat with people on our social networks.
We just look at pictures, read comments, and scroll through the pages of different friends. We feel like we are connecting because we are consuming the content they are posting.
I am guilty of this. I have hundreds of "friends" on various social media app's but I only connect with a few of them. The rest we don't really talk but there is a mutual love and respect, but no connection.
Why do we do this?
Perhaps many of us only connect with those people we like being around or have something in common with?
Far too many of us have let relationships fade away instead of growing them. It's not because we don't want to connect with friends and family, we are just so busy living life for our own needs.
We have so many other important things happening that we must pick and choose what we can and will entertain.
All too often it is easy to say, "I'll connect with that person tomorrow." We are really good at making excuses instead of reconnecting with people.
Maybe today is the time to reconnect with friends and family members you have not contact within months.
But before you go out and message everyone on your friends list, consider this. If you were to reach out, would you be adding value to people's lives by reconnecting? Would they be adding value to your life?
Sometimes we need to move on and not focus on past relationships. Rather than rebuilding past relationships, we should focus on new relationships. Ones that can change of future.
To do this we should add value to others. We need to grow up and not live in the past. Sometimes, things are better left undone, and still, they create and add value to all.
