Netherlands: Utrecht rally in support of restaurant forced shut after COVID pass rejection

Utrecht residents gathered outside the Dutch city's Waku Waku restaurant on Tuesday to protest its closure by the municipality, as the local business rejected the COVID pass-based model imposed by the government.

Demonstrators pledged solidarity to the restaurant managers who spoke to the masses and supported the venue offering donations and buying drinks at an impromptu bar set at the entrance to Waku Waku.

The new COVID pass regulation that came into effect on September 25 makes proof of vaccination, recent recovery or negative test mandatory for entering public venues such as cinemas, restaurants or gyms.

The Dutch government has justified the pass as necessary to prevent the spread of COVID-19 with the introduction of the rules tied to the relaxation of social distancing, and necessary capacity limitations requirements for restaurants, cinemas, and other establishments.

Die Einwohner von Utrecht versammelten sich am Dienstag vor dem Restaurant Waku Waku in der niederländischen Stadt, um gegen die Schließung durch die Stadtverwaltung zu protestieren, da das lokale Unternehmen das von der Regierung auferlegte COVID-Kartenmodell ablehnt.

Die Demonstranten erklärten sich mit den Betreibern des Restaurants solidarisch, die zu den Massen sprachen und das Lokal mit Spenden und dem Kauf von Getränken an einer improvisierten Bar am Eingang des Waku Waku unterstützten.

Los manifestantes se solidarizaron con los gestores del restaurante, que se dirigieron a las masas y apoyaron el local ofreciendo donativos y comprando bebidas en un bar improvisado instalado a la entrada del Waku Waku.

La nueva normativa sobre el pase COVID, que entró en vigor el 25 de septiembre, obliga a acreditar la vacunación, la recuperación reciente o el resultado negativo de la prueba para entrar en lugares públicos como cines, restaurantes o gimnasios.

El gobierno holandés ha justificado el pase como necesario para prevenir la propagación del COVID-19 con la introducción de las normas vinculadas a la relajación del distanciamiento social, y los requisitos necesarios de limitación de capacidad para restaurantes, cines y otros establecimientos.
