Orange County Schoolboard Meeting 9-28-2021

On Tuesday September 28th, DataBattlesZ and the team showed up in solidarity with pro Freedom of Choice advocates. When we arrived, the pro maskers were up to their usual antics of showing up early and allowing late attendees to cut in line, we brought this to the attention of law enforcement and reclaimed order. Tensions may have been high, but everyone acted amicably. We sorted into the building in two lines, speakers and non speakers. The press and alternative press can no longer enter the building and bypass the metal detector. The Mainstream media also has to abide by the new protocol and wasn't given free range in the board room. Instead we were provided a press line to stand behind. DataBattlesZ captured the entirety of the public comment seeing as the OCPS live feed no longer feels they need to show the public these meetings and has gone as far to remove the prior public comment from their live stream videos. Jacob Engels made a passionate speech and the majority of the room agreed with his message.

Tempers flared during Tuesday night's Orange County School Board meeting despite new rules implemented to try and keep the peace.

Most of the disruption coming as the board discussed potentially firing a school employee for refusing to wear a mask.

The board did ultimately fire the employee and at least four people were escorted out by police during the discussion.

"This is Nazi Germany. All y'all are some Nazis. You too," one commenter said to the board.

"Is this Nazi Germany? Is this the Holocaust? Of course not. This is looking out for each other. This is what we do in this country. This is what makes us great,” OCPS School Board Chair Teresa Jacobs said.

The board had hoped putting in stricter time limits like seating arrangements and banning signs would quash any flare-ups.

But many people, most of whom were there opposing the district's mask mandate, still took the opportunity to voice their dissent.

"It's crazy. My kid would love to talk and share with you what's going on actually in the schools but you guys don't give us the opportunity,” one person said.
