Pickup Rear Ends 18 Wheeler, Driver Flown, LIVINGSTON, September 27, 2021 - At approximately 1:40 pm on September 27, 2021, an 18 wheeler, driven by Triston Jamile Sims, 37, of Houston, was north-bound on US-59 a short distance north of the Livingston City Limits (across from Timberwood Nursing Home). Sims was apparently attempting a left turn into a cross over to the south-bound side and slowed down when he was rear ended by a 1991 Ford pickup driven by Freddy Marshall, Jr., 79, of Livingston. Marshall was north-bound behind the 18 wheeler and was apparently coming too fast and could not control his speed. The impact caused Marshall's pickup to leave the pavement to the left and come to rest in a residential front yard. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department Heavy Rescue Unit, Deputies from the Polk County Sheriff's Office, and Corporal Ramey Bass with the Texas Highway Patrol. Sims pulled his rig to the south-bound side of 59. Marshall was trapped in his truck. Volunteer firemen used the Jaws-of-Life to cut the vehicle from around Marshall and extract him from his vehicle. Marshall was loaded into and ambulance and a landing zone was set up on the north-bound side of 59. An Air Rescue medical helicopter landed and transported Marshall to Conroe Regional Hospital with serious injuries. Sims was uninjured. All traffic on the north-bound side of 59 was blocked during investigation, cleanup, and flight operations. Marshall's pickup was recovered by a rollback wrecker from Fawbush Wrecker and will be stored in Goodrich. This accident remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol.
