Psalm 19 Hymn of the Believer V

How does David and the man of the Bible guard against these two problems?

1. Daily examination of conscience. Asking the Lord for insight and to humbly acknowledge the tendency to sin. We have all fallen short of the Glory of the Lord ask the Lord how one has fallen short of His glory. He tells us in ways that are not shaming. Our Lord’s voice of correction is one of tendency, mercy, reconciliation, grace & truth.

Adversary & psychology could be a harsh, judgmental words.

There is now no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus Rm 8:1
Conviction vs condemnation, healthy revelation of where we went wrong but not one of oppressor. Distract us from mercy & grace of God that will help us find a new way.
Voice of world & culture how far gone, God the Father wants to embrace us ins spite of our short comings.

Jesus is not surprised by our sins. He wants us to bind our wounds, make us whole, consonant with that person’s integrity.

2. Presumption is rampant in our culture. The mercy of God has been pitted against His justice.

Rather God’s mercy and justice are the same thing, they are convertible within Him. It is the position of the sinner that makes the difference. Humble acknowledgement or non serviam is every soul’s choice. Faithfulness on God’s part is conditioned by the observance of the covenant. He is always faithful and keeping the covenant brings a fullness of life which is a blessing in and of itself. Breaking of oaths always carries covenantal curses in large part due to a life of sin is miserable.

Covenant living and the believer can start to think they are better than. Careful to remain humble even in keeping of covenant no avail without the Lord’s help.

For David, the servant of the Lord is one who meditates on the manifold ways the Lord is known both from Creation and Revelation and then KEEPS them.

Referring to Athanasius the Book of Psalms is a summary of all Scripture, “If the point needs to be put more forcefully, let us say that the entire Holy Scripture is a teacher of virtues and of the truths of faith, while the Book of Psalms possesses somehow the perfect image for the souls’ course of life.”

Finally, David puts his meditation before the Lord and asks Him to know if this is true. He is demonstrating a posture of humility not presumption. He takes counsel with the Holy Spirit. Since these words have been put forward by the Church (Canon of Sacred Scripture) as worthy of ascent, we act on them with full confidence. They are inerrant, no error. If one cannot stand on the canon of Scripture, what can one stand on?
FYI, wondering if some books belong or have not been included is the whispering of the adversary, are you sure? In Eve’s case it was are you sure you are not to eat? The uncertainty of the canon leads to doubt, then fear, and finally disobedience.
