20210922 Just Following Orders - The Daily Summation

Maybe you think the problem with what General Mark Milley did when he did with the then-sitting president was disobeying orders.

Forgive me for disagreeing with such an idea.

You see, I consider it reasonable to DISOBEY LAWFUL ORDERS.

If someone orders you to do something you cannot do in good conscience, you may suffer the consequences for your failure if you refuse.

Those military members in World War II were NOT "just following orders." The chances are good, they were "just following LAWFUL orders."

That doesn't make their actions CORRECT. You KNOW they weren't doing what they did IN GOOD CONSCIENCE.

Here's the problem I have with General Milley.

He acted in COVERT WAYS, not telling the sitting president (HIS BOSS), he had problems with him.

Would doing so have gotten him "fired?"

Maybe.

That said, if he DIDN'T HAVE THE BACKBONE to confront the Commander in Chief, at the VERY LEAST, he shouldn't be holding such an important position.

The only other answer I can come up with was INTENTIONAL DECEIT. This, of course is WORSE.

As a former member of the military, I had the SAME OBLIGATION General Milley has, come to following orders. Frankly, I technically STILL DO (have to follow the law, or suffer the consequences).

Just like him, I can't use the excuse, "I was just following orders."

That said, I need to STAND UP when people ask me to do things I cannot manage in good conscience. It's no different for HIM, than it is for ME.
