Why are Australians still locked in their homes?

We are a small nation with even smaller States who all struggle to manage a very expensive bureaucratic universal health system.

While other countries rapidly mobilized national resources to improvise a Covid response, hospital ships, tent hospitals, emergency respirator factories, Australians watched in horror as a "National Cabinet" of six State Premiers, with a sidelined Prime Minister, popped up on national TV.

The Premiers, all out of their depth, failed to mobilize a treatment response, failed to find any good scientific expertise, and failed to override their Health Bureaucrats.
One State health official was heard to quip "you don't just train an ICU nurse overnight".
The Premiers then gambled on vaccines.

Media Fail.
The broadcast media seized on Covid-19 to fuel a ratings revival on the mass hysteria. They had been bleeding their news audience to the "personal devices" and to a billion dollar a year, woke, national broadcaster. Covid-19 was a gift from the Gods.

A symbiotic morning drama event developed between the State Premiers and the Media and continued for months. It compelled a captive nationwide audience to watch in fear and shock as they were driven to "Covid Zero" with ever more draconian measures.

A year passed. Then the virus mutated.
It got uncontrollably infectious and, although less deadly, started embarrassing the Premiers with rising health statistics.
Then we saw that the miracle messenger RNA vaccines were specific to the original virus and doomed to decline in effectiveness.

The Premiers suddenly had a failed response, failing vaccines, no effective treatments and no treatment facilities, a bizarre economic death dive, increasing civil unrest and no solution but continued suppression of the population while they waited impatiently for the very, very few very unlucky victims to pass through the very limited ICU facilities and die.

Like I said at the start of the pandemic drama - the sooner we all get it the sooner we can get back to normal, but nobody listens to me anymore.
