In the second half of the 20th century, the status of pets dogs changed in two key ways. The first step has been "commodification," in which it has been shaped to meet societal standards for traits and behaviors. By embracing dogs as dogs, we mean including them in daily routines and practices, rather than just seeing them as pets.
