Watch Audi's official video of the new Audi e-tron GT production plant! As you can see, the plant is very modern and there are many technologies here. The e-tron GT is the first fully electric Audi to be produced in Germany.
The e-tron GT is the first fully electric Audi to be produced in Germany. It rolls from the Audi Bollinger Höfe at the Neckarsulm factory. Small chain production facilities were expanded and transferred to new roles. The craftsmanship of the former factory is complemented by digital processes and smart technology. During the expansion process, production planners used new virtual methods. The mass-produced e-tron GT was built without a physical prototype — first and foremost, an Audi.
The Body Shop combines the great skills of employees with the full potential of automated production technology. It consists of an innovative structure assembly line, and each body has to pass twice. It is built around so-called two-way tyres, in which ten robots are used to connect the in and out. It combines all the manufacturing steps and connects the side panels in one system which makes the production of the Audi e-tron GT possible in today's footprint. The so-called non-body internal scaling procedure is also new. It ensures higher accuracy and can respond to subtle deviations very quickly. At the end of the chassis assembly line, meticulous craftsmanship plays a role: experienced workers install additional parts and inspect the completed chassis.
The e-tron GT shares the assembly line with the high-performance Audi R8 sports car - this integration of two technically distinct cars unique to the Volkswagen Group. The extended assembly line includes 36 cycles instead of the previous 16 cycles. Both models use the same unmanned transport vehicle and an all-electric monorail system for transport, with humans and robots working side by side at a location on the production line. After completion, each vehicle will travel 40 kilometers (24.9 miles) on public roads, which also include highway sections and urban traffic.
The Audi e-tron GT quattro and RS e-tron GT produced in Böllinger Höfe are carbon-free. Just as in the entire Neckarsulm plant, 100% of the environmental electricity is used for production, and the required heat is supplied by Bolinger Hof through the biogas and heating cogeneration device. Carbon credits from certified climate protection projects offset inevitable emissions.

Audi also relies on resource-efficient car manufacturing. In this way, Böllinger Höfe's production avoids the use of paper and packaging, and uses closed-loop systems, etc. The aluminum sheets accumulated in the press shop, such as during the production of the sidewall frames, will be returned to the supplier, where they will be recycled and then reused at Audi. Audi has launched a plastic recycling pilot project. The waste plastic is processed into fibres, which are then used in 3D printers to make tools for the production process.
