Sen. McConnell Explains Well in Advance that Dems are Solely Responsible for Not Defaulting

In a press conference on Sep 14, 2021, a question was asked by a reporter that resulted in US Senator Mitch McConnell explaining that the Republicans are united in opposition to raising the debt ceiling, not because it doesn't need to be done, but because the Democrats are acting unilaterally to expand the reach of the Federal government in an unprecedented and never before seen manner, and therefore, since the Republicans have no input into these matters because the Democrats have circumvented the GOP's means of responding in their respective chambers of Congress, then it will be solely up to the Democrats to also ensure that the U.S. Government does not default.

This actually makes a great deal of sense because since the Republicans aren't helping to create the fiscal problem that the Democrats are circumventing them in order to cause, then the Republicans also feel that they shouldn't be on the hook for solving the problem that wouldn't exist in the first place had the Democrats not created it.

I don't always agree with Senator McConnell, but on this particular point, what the Republicans are doing is perfectly justified, imho. If the Democrats cause the problem unilaterally, then by all means, they should be unilaterally responsible for also solving the problem as well.
