Nemo: 5 Interesting Facts

#1/ The name Nemo has a fascinating backstory.

The origin of Nemo's name is a point of contention.

Some say it's because his name in Latin means "nobody," but it doesn't make any sense!
Another hypothesis is that he is called after Captain Nemo from the novel 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.
Another idea is that the name is derived from his habitat, the anemone, pronounced a-nemo-ne.

What are your thoughts?

#2/ Nemo is the only child in his family.

Marlin and Carol, two clownfish that resided in the Great Barrier Reef, had a kid named Nemo.

A ferocious barracuda invaded their house just after their 400 eggs were produced, causing tragedy!
Marlin, Nemo's father, gets knocked unconscious during the onslaught and awakens to the worst-case situation.

Carol has vanished, and the barracuda has devoured all but one of their treasured eggs.
As an only kid, Nemo hatches from the final remaining egg and is nurtured by Marlin, who is now a single father.

#3/ Nemo grew up in an extremely protected environment.

Marlin, Nemo's father, never fully recovered from the death of Carol and Nemo's siblings, and this influenced how he raised Nemo.

He grew into an overprotective parent who was always concerned about Nemo's welfare.
Marlin is extremely cautious of Nemo since his right flipper was injured from the barracuda assault and has grown considerably smaller than his left flipper.

Marlin's child-rearing method generates friction between him and Nemo, prompting Nemo to lash out at him and declare that he despises him.

#4/ Nemo is far more powerful than his father ever anticipated.

Marlin was always concerned that Nemo's broken flipper might prevent him from swimming properly.

As a result, Nemo begins to believe that he, like the rest of his buddies and his father, would never be able to swim.
When Nemo is kidnapped and taken to the dentist's office's fish tank, he becomes trapped in the filter.

He manages to swim free of the filter thanks to words of encouragement from one of the other fish, Gill.

From this moment on, Nemo comes to learn that if he sets his mind to it, he can swim like the other fish!

#5/ Nemo makes a living as an escape artist.

After Nemo befriends the other fish in the dentist's tank and they hear of his story, they devise a daring plot to flee.

Nemo plays a crucial role in the plot by blocking the water filter with a stone in the hopes of escaping when the tank is being cleaned, aided by his diminutive stature.
This strategy fails badly when a fresh, far more sophisticated filter is installed in the tank.
Nemo is placed in a plastic bag and delivered to the dentist's niece in a dramatic twist.

He acts dead as a last-ditch attempt, and despite being nearly put in the garbage, he manages to escape down a sewer that flows out into the sea.
Nemo grew tremendously during the film, from an insecure and rebellious kid to a courageous and caring buddy.

Many children adored the figure to the point where they begged and pleaded for their parents to purchase them their own Nemo for their aquariums!
