We all die eventually, so we should want to know where we are going after death. Many people do not get excited about heaven because they do not have a picture in their mind of what it will look like, but the Bible does tell us what it will be like. The final chapters of Revelation describe new heavens and a new earth much like the earth was before the fall, restoring humankind to a sinless state and bringing us back into direct communion with God. If we faithe in Christ and want to be with Him, this picture should bring us joy, not doom and gloom.
