The Best Homemade Baked Lasagna Recipe (Filipino style)
Ingredients
1 package lasagna noodles
1.5 lbs. ground beef
1 large onion, chopped
1 whole garlic, chopped
9 oz. or 255grams tomato paste
1 tbsp. Oregano
1 tbsp. Basil
6 tbsp. Brown sugar
3 beef bouillon cubes
Salt and pepper to taste
Olive oil for sautéing
Mozzarella Cheese, shredded
White Sauce:
1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup all purpose flour
3 cups whole milk or evaporated milk
Pinch of nutmeg (optional)
1 tsp. Onion powder
Salt and pepper to taste
Directions
1. Cook noodles according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
2. In large saucepan, heat oil over medium. Sauté onion and garlic until translucent. Add ground beef cook, stirring, until beef is no longer pink, about 5 minutes.
3. Add tomato paste, oregano, basil, beef bouillon cubes, salt and pepper and bring to boil. Add sugar. Mix well. Reduce heat to low and simmer, stirring often, until sauce thickens, and beef is already tender and cooked, about 20-30 minutes. Set aside.
4. Melt butter in a medium saucepan. Add the flour and constantly stir until the mixture is light brown in color. Gradually add milk stirring constantly. Add nutmeg, onion powder, salt and pepper. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until sauce thickens. Set aside.
5. Preheat oven to 375 F. In a 9 x 13 baking dish, spread a thin layer of the white sauce then layer 3 noodles on top. Spoon enough meat sauce to cover the noodles, then spread again with some white sauce, then sprinkle with shredded mozzarella cheese. Then continue to layer in the following order, the noodles, meat sauce, white sauce, shredded mozzarella.
6. Bake for approximately 30- 45 minutes or until lasagna is bubbling and top is browned and crisp around the edges. Cool for 10 mins. before serving.
