Sweetgum looks very similar to red maple, but has five points instead of three. In the fall, sweetgum turns a yellow and red color. If you’re not quite sure if what you’re looking at is sweetgum, check out the ground. You’ll sometimes be able to find round, woody seeds that are spiked (nicknamed “gumballs”).
