As students are starting to return to school in the wake of the pandemic, teacher unions have played a big part in the return to normalcy. But some teacher unions have politicized the return and used their positions to push for policies in support of issues like critical race theory, defunding the police, and Medicare for all—policies that fall more in line with advocacy than education. And these same teacher unions have been plagued with problems ranging from poor use of funds, lack of financial transparency in education budgets, and politicized curricula being implemented across the country.
