The World Health Organisation has called for a pause on vaccine booster shots until 2022.

The Health body wants wealthier countries to distribute doses to other countries with low vaccines supplies before injecting booster shots.

A 'moratorium' on third doses of the vaccine had initially proposed through the end of September.

The Director General says about 80 per cent of the 5.5 billion vaccine doses that have been administered globally went to high-income countries.

France has already started administering booster shots to those with underlying health conditions.

The UK is slated to begin its booster program for immunocompromised people later this month.
